why?
by Jeremy on Nov.06, 2006, under transportation
I’ve biked just about everwhere within bikeshot since i was 13, well maybe even before that if you count my BMX era that basically comprised of home->school->7-11->dirt track->home. It was fun and freedom and I had parents that really didn’t abuse the car and always pushed fora greener life. It was all about that for a long while and that got me past being a fair weather cyclist to an everyday one. I even stripped my ten speed down to a single and wore lycra bibs to work because i was totally oblivious to everything.
That works in college but just doesn’t work when you’re trying to land a dream job in the pre-Green era. Yeah, for some years i was dependant on the car (when i could afford one) a lot for work and school but once i set into a career and the Green era found LEED all of a sudden people changed mindset in the office from “can’t he afford a car?” to “are you saving on gas?”
i found i could never be dependant on the car anymore here in LA (except for hauling and long distance). Honestly I can barely handle that since no one follows any laws here. After a college degree and environmental merits in my career I’ve been pondering divorcing the car.
The 90′s paper barrels brought today’s gas prices and I’m finally able to sit back and cash in on spinning two wheels. I’ve made a ton of savings but i spent some godforsaken fortune on a new car which kind of cuts into me bad… it just sits there getting all dusty. why dammit why?
