Architecture expected to lag through 2010

by Jeremy on Jul.16, 2009, under architecture, e/n

“This nonresidential downturn is shaping up to be the deepest decline in nonresidential activity in over a generation.” said Kermit Baker, chief economist for the AIA.“However, we’re beginning to see some moderation in the trends in design billings at architecture firms, so we hopefully are nearing the bottom of this cycle.”

junior lifeguard killed in HB

by Jeremy on Jul.15, 2009, under e/n

The girl was among two dozen junior lifeguards participating in a “speed drop,” which trains lifeguards to reach swimmers in the shortest amount of time

the speed drop drill was the most death defying feat i had accomplished by age 9.
jumping off the tower on the pier was a close second.
it’s a part of being a junior lifeguard and it’s unfortunate someone died while participating in the exercise.

fastest road bike in the tour?

by Jeremy on Jul.09, 2009, under e/n, transportation

Cavendish’s Addict is one production bike I’d buy… too bad i can’t afford the model i need.
Good luck to Mr. Cavendish in keeping the green through the tour…his name actually came up in conversation today. That’s what’s great about the Tour de France… it’s almost mainstream. I dig the live stream and podcasts… i just skip riding in the morning and spin on the trainer.. amazing how the 3 hours go without any boredom. well… mostly without… the panel / newsroom stuff i could almost do without.

i swear, someone needs to make a dramatic ‘playing dirty’ / ‘sabotage’ / ‘killer cyclist’ motion picture again

Los Angeles gains the spotlight again by flushing budget down the toilet on TV

by Jeremy on Jul.08, 2009, under e/n

so yeah, 4 million dollars spent on a rich guy’s funeral, Mayor on vacation, police chief shows off his force on parade, donation website failed, possible city revenue lost, now he won’t make public comment. way to start your term off homie. lets see how many more reporter chicas Mayor V can nail instead of doing his job. maybe he can sell the videos to bail our budget out. anything. i don’t care what it is. give me 110% not just 10%

oh, oh , oh , oh, but did you see this?:

^behold…. our tax dollars being exploded into a ball of fire filling the entire sky from a mile away… all to celebrate the birth of our nation… or was it the the demise of our nation?

well, i know those fireworks cost AT LEAST the same as someone’s salary, maybe a few people’s salary. it IS LA and I DID see a lot of new technology fireworks so the pricetag can’t be small.

to compensate for my anger over this I grilled some hot dogs at home and brought them with us to see the fireworks. you could sense the envy in the air as it filled with the delicious smell of freshly grilled hot dogs.

the cloud of envy thickened after we skipped past all the cars when the fireworks were done
…lane splitting with your sweetie on a saturday night? what could be better?
